Food to Avoid While Wearing Orthodontic Braces
For the most part you can continue to eat what you want, but there are some exceptions. Getting used to braces usually means making a few adjustments in your eating habits. This is because some food might damage your braces or cause problems with your teeth. Here's a list of items to avoid and tips on how to enjoy them with caution:
- Apples ( Don't bite into a whole one, cut it into wedges first )
- Bubble Gum
- Candy ( Caramel, taffy, nut brittle's, fruit-flavored chewy candies, gummy anything )
- Carrots (Avoid sticks, cut them into curls )
- Corn on the Cob ( Remove the kernels from the cob , then enjoy )
- Corn chips/ crisp tacos
- Hard foods ( They're tough on braces, cause bending and breaking )
- Ice
- Lemon juice or lemons ( The juice is hard on your enamel )
- Nuts
- Pizza Crusts
- Popcorn
- Sticky Foods
- Sugary Foods
