When Should I Start Brushing My Baby's Teeth?

When should I start cleaning my baby's teeth?

This is a good habit to start early! The sooner you introduce brushing into your child's routine the easier the habit will be to maintain.  The teeth must be cleaned as they erupt. Use a damp wash cloth or an age appropriate tooth brush.

If your health care provider and/or dentist agrees, use a tiny dab of fluoride toothpaste. Tooth brushing needs to be a parent's job in the preschool years. Children are usually able to brush their teeth on their own when they are 8 years old, but double checking is always recommended.

Be sure to check your child's teeth regularly for any brown/dark or white chalky spots which could be the beginning of tooth decay.
